Maternal Investment The Cows
At Murramungee Angus Stud, our breeding program values our cows just as much as our sire selections. As we are not a huge operation, our individual matching of sire to dam is painstakingly analysed to deliver the best outcomes.
With a focus on no intervention calving without compromising growth; our average herd birth weight is dropping year on year, whilst always having good milkers and maintaining this trait is helping keep the average 200 day and 400 day weights greater than the Angus breed averages.
Each and every cow must contribute to our herds growth that is why each year after the calving outcomes are known and considered we cull as required to maintain ongoing improvements in the maternal outcomes of the stud. Yes, we have favourites, and we unashamedly get rid of the ugly ones, we are proud of our “girls” and they reward us with beautiful natured offspring every year over many years.

It’s rewarding to walk through the weaner sales and see “Sired by Murramungee Angus Stud” on the pens, especially at the 2024 Myrtleford Weaner sale when the top pen of heifers was from our bulls. Our clients keep coming back as the bulls are reliable, good natured and produce high growth, high quality calves. With a focus on structure and fertility our bulls are made to last.
We have a very a clear vision of the types of bulls we want to offer our long-standing customers and it’s on that basis that we source the best of the best Australian and Global semen to enrich the local bloodlines through our annual AI program. Each year over 1,000 sires are considered, assessed and thrifted against our herd to trait optimise whilst balancing a phenotypical presence to impress.
We are committed to breeding top-notched bulls and take immense pride in presenting our bulls each year.
